Regret was a funny thing. It was a moment where you wished you hadn't done something that you did, because it gained unfavourable outcomes. Sai was the type of person to say what came to him. Impulses were something he thought he had control over, but this time, as he had the thought about what he'd usually do in such a situation, he should have quelled the thought to use it to his advantage. Still, old habits and his attitude worked against him, and what was an agreeable moment was completely reversed. He was pushed down into the chair, and for a moment another impulse surfaced; retaliation. Being touched so suddenly, and in such a rough manner, made his hand jerk as though he was about to push back, but thankfully this time he reigned in it.
Down into the chair he went, and was subject to what he could identify as scolding. It was not a pleasant situation, especially now that he actually liked his teacher, but was too used to it to react, and even if he did it would not be genuine. He was reminded of his place and mutely nodded. Deidara-san liked to get in closer than most teachers were so he didn't know what was proper. Should he look away submissively? Did he want eye-contact? Sai settled for the latter, mostly because his eyes were already locked into the fiery gaze and for lack of a decision he stayed as he was. Rather than reflecting on where he had gone wrong (he already realized this as Deidara-san raised his volume against him) he was running through his thoughts trying to figure out what were the appropriate responses and expressions in such a situation. He was almost tempted to just smile.
“Yes, sensei.” He responded softly, toneless, as he stood up and gathered up his things. He kept it to himself that if Deidara-san didn't want to assign him extra work then it was as simple as not giving him any, but at this point further conversation seemed meaningless. “I shall drop off my third assignment tomorrow for your assessment, so don't expect to have to stay here after school once more.” He looked at the tense man, comparing it to how just a moment before he was relaxed and content under his touch. What a pity.
“Take care.” He smiled, and left. He'd have to think of ways to make it up to Deidara-san in class. Perhaps he'd make a sculpture of him next time?
