Physical Appearance Standing about five-foot nine, Shino keeps himself at a decent 130 pounds, even with a lifestyle that sorely lacks much more physical activity than walking. As far as strength goes, he is slightly weaker than the average student, not that he has much need for it in his day to day life. Obviously a lighter shade of skin pigment than most, it is understood to be easily caused by how little Shino spends outside and his usual wardrobe. No matter the season, he is always seen in loose pants, a high collared sweater and topped off with a large coat, the hood usually being drawn whenever in direct sunlight and the colors only varying in shades of grey or black. It makes one really question why such layered clothing would be worn so often and it also leaves an inaccurate gauge as to his actual size. When asked about this, Shino only deflects the question or merely chooses not to give a decent reason. Removal of one or both coats is only done when Shino has been really found himself in a comfortable situation, unless he is, of course, caught by surprise. The same could be said about the glasses he wears, which transition to shades gradually when exposed to direct sunlight. Shino is far-sighted, meaning he can’t see very well up close without his glasses and he wears them constantly.
Personality When first meeting someone, usually eye contact is held for a moment just before a greeting is exchanged, but one would see right off the bat that such an interaction would not go the same with Shino. He would return the gaze, but would break it off a moment later and walk away with so much as a word or change in expression. It isn’t a lack of friendliness, but rather a lack of interest, since it would be much more obvious if there was any. His every action is governed and geared towards perking his own interest, which can make a conversation seem more like an interrogation than small talk. As everyone knows, interest can be lost quickly and there will be a less than subtle indication of this. Such poor social skills lead to a poor social life, but not one entirely devoid of interaction, since it takes more than a few conversations to delve into a person and find out everything that is interesting about them. Of course, whether familiar with Shino or not, all would see that he was far more blunt and honest of what he thinks, another cause of his limited social activity.
Strengths Theoretically, Shino is a rather smart individual, since school work never poses a problem. He is also willing to offer tutoring or aid when asked, though there are few instances when he has actually been asked. It is also of worthy note to mention how honest Shino is, leaving no reason for others to think he would lie.
Flaws Shino is not physically any more capable than someone his own age and would appear even less so, since he is less likely to push himself any further than a sweat before surrendering. Patience is not a virtue he holds either and finds himself unable to handle mundane situations and would rather wander away rather than wait long. Perhaps Shino’s poor social skills could be seen as a weakness, since there are many who would rather avoid interaction with him when they meet him.
Drink? He does, but simply for recreational purposes, such as when he has to deal with particularly boring situations and need something to improve his patience.
Smoke? Yes, for recreational purposes, but it has started to develop into a rather nasty habit, one that surprises him sometimes when he find a cigarette in his hand.
Drive? No, Shino does not drive, having long labeled it as a mundane activity and won’t bothering learning, even though he has to resort to settling for transportation another way.
Drugs? No, not that he hasn’t thought about it, but prefers to keep a clear mind, no matter how curious he gets.
Partying? Not something he does very often, Shino treats such arrangements as a chance for observations of his fellow classmates, though he does deploy a weak charade to try and mingle more easily.
Family Shibi Aburame, Shino’s father, is a man of similar behavior to his son, but has much more developed social skills than him. He neither advocates, nor rejects Shino’s behavior, merely letting him do as he wills. The bond between them is an unspoken one, due to either’s lack of interest in exploring it. They merely interact when needed, for important information or when they happen to be at home at the same time.
Residence Shino lives with his father in a simple two bedroom apartment, one chose specifically for its location; close to the school and city library.
History Shino was raised by his father alone, having no recollection of his mother and was obviously an only child. Considering that there was only the two of them, he developed an attachment to his father, never wandering more than a foot away whenever the two were in public. Like any child, he was curious, but had absolutely no problem merely watching to learn, rather than actually experiencing anything himself. This hesitant nature and close attachment would limit how much Shino actually ventured outside willingly and he seemed perfectly content watching his father read for hours on end, without so much as a complaint of boredom. Seeking a more intimate relationship with his father, Shino turned to books as well and found himself becoming just as enthralled with them. At one point, he began reading a book and was so focused that his father had gotten up and left the room, which Shino did not notice. He slowly overcame the attachment and by the time high school started, the father and son were barely interacting at all. Home life was limited to reading, eating and sleeping. A rather detached arrangement for the place one calls home, but simple.
School was a completely different situation. Most assumed Shino was shy as a child, since he was usually found with limited interaction with any of his classmates, even when approached by others, but it was more a reclusive behavior, not that it would seem that different when watching him. Curiosity about the other students overcame him soon enough and he actually started talking to them, though questioning was more accurate. Most would answer a question or two before realizing there was more to come and would simply give him a weird look before walking away. It didn’t take long for him to realize talking wasn’t going to get him all he wanted to know. The means in which to quench his curiosity slowly developed and became Shino’s main reason for interaction. Such rather alien behavior left Shino with hardly any that referred to him as a friend, not that he was all that concerned with it, at first. At some point, whether through observation or just natural human tendencies, Shino found himself thinking he could learn far more from a person when they were comfortable with you. A slight change in his mannerisms and Shino found he could at least fake most social norms, but he only committed to the bare minimum, leading to a small sense of friendship from a selective few. The practice of socializing did not come often though, since Shino still had solitaire behavior habitually.
The actual school work came easy, since there was plenty of time at home for him to study and it changed his schedule very little, considering how he poured through books with little issues from concentration. At one point he got a little ahead in learning and has never had much trouble since.
High school was a much more dramatic change than Shino was used to, since so much more focus was put on one’s social life and he had found himself in a few less than comfortable situations. He even had to start allowing for situations that would bring him no analytical merit, which he has let happen far more often than he would admit. The whole involvement was getting under his skin without his notice and every one in a while, he would catch himself, realizing he was almost acting “normal.”
No big surprise

What makes your character (or interpretation of the character) unique, original, and worth having on the site? Shino would no doubt be an interesting character, whether that is the normal ninja plot, or even high school. Most would probably make him an obvious nerd, reclusive and detached, but I think I can put a better spin on him than that. He should undoubtedly be more social, but still awkward. A lurker and observer with a real, almost reckless hands on approach to finding things out would make Shino a lot more dynamic and may even give leeway to see if some of those teenage antics can taint the prude of a bug enthusiast.
Role Play Sample The sun was high in the sky, but it went unnoticed behind the curtains of Shino’s room. They were drawn tightly shut and the only light visible came from the desk lamp, illuminating the pages of a rather large volume lying open. The small print would cause anyone’s eyes to strain after reading for very long, but this wasn’t a problem for the teenager at the moment. Shino was still in the desk chair, slumped in a semi-tilted lean and breathing slowly, obviously fast asleep. It was a Saturday and even though most would be out in the middle of the day, he was knocked out after a straight night of reading. The book, which had to be at least two thousand pages, but it was open to page four-twenty eight, obviously a considerable amount, but not something Shino would be happy about once he awoke.
Whether this was true or not was going to be seen soon enough as a hard tap signaled Shibi Aburame’s presence before walking into the room. The partially cloaked man looked around the room, taking in everything before finally setting his sights on his unconscious son.
“Shino, I am heading out. If you are going to the library, take the four volumes on Cardio-therapy back for me.”
He gave a pause after saying Shino’s name, since his voice woke the youth up, who looked around a bit startled before hearing the rest. He nodded, standing up and turning the desk light off after his father left. The idea of heading to the library was already put in his head, so he closed the book and let out a yawn before heading into the hall. A quick slip on of his coat and his shoes, and Shino was ready to open the front door, which immediately caused him to recoil from the sudden bright light. His eyes adjusted after a few moments as he was reminded of why he had not gone to the library on a more regular basis; because there was the tedious trip between point A and B that was unmistakably the journey outside.
