While it was not her favorite class of the day, a science lab was usually a class that this blonde looked forward to it. Despite her nonchalant actions she did love doing experiments and mixing chemicals and making things explode. That was what science class was all about, and she loved it. Despite the numerous ways that she struggled. True science was not her strongest subject, but she got good grades. She had to get good grades, you can't get bad grades and be in sports. That was just not allowed, and it was something that kept this blonde vigilant on getting good grades, not that she would let her grades drop even without sports.
Arriving early to class during the first two weeks of school was something she chose to do. It helped to get her on the teachers good side, the usually didn't like students showing up late so early in the year. Picking a table by the window she chose the seat closer to the window. Some days it was a good thing to be able to see outside, maybe even smell the rain if she was lucky. Now all that was left was to wait for everyone else to show up. There were a few people along side her in the class, she knew a few of them but no one she knew well. Thinking back to her friends Ino wondered if she had this class with any of her other friends. Guess all she could do was wait and see, not that she enjoyed a moment of waiting.
As long as she got a good table partner she was not going to worry, after all having a good, fun partner made class so much more fun. Even if she had to work alone she was going to enjoy this class. She had been looking forward to this class since her science class had ended last year. Finally there were just five minuets before class and the room was starting to look fuller, the teacher looked like they were about to start writing all the boring stuff on the board. She pulled out a note book taking her eye off the door. Looked like she might be partner-less this semester.

Uzumaki Naruto was not the biggest fan of Science class. In fact, it was the only class he had ever outright failed, his Freshman year, meaning a berating from every adult in his life ever and most of his peers to boot and slogging his way to school and spending his summers indoors rather than wreaking havoc with Kiba and Kankuro. At least it was only a single class, and the experience had made the blonde male determined to ensure it never happened again.
Unfortunately, 'making sure it never happened again' meant, well, y'know, actually showing up. At least most of the time, anyway.
The Uzumaki hadn't been paying attention to time, too busy planning the outrageous weekend ahead with his friends to actually bother making it to science on time. Of course, this, combined with his ridiculously bright hair, meant that he was easy prey for the teacher to pick out of the crowd of latecomers.
"UZUMAKI!" The woman's shrill voice cut into his ears, making him wince and filling his stomach with dread all over again. No, he really wasn't going to enjoy this.
"By Yamanaka! NOW!" Apparently, he was the only one who didn't get a seating choice. Though, really, he could understand the teacher's ire; the blonde boy could be quite chatty when he wanted to be, though apparently this particular old woman thought that at 16 and 17 the kids she was teaching still believed in cooties. But while Sakura was really his only close female friend, Naruto was definitely not adverse to making more; while he and Ino Yamanaka weren't besties or BFFLs or anything he had no qualms with the girl. In fact, he was kind of surprised no one else was sitting next to her yet, but he really wasn't going to complain. In fact, he considered as he shrugged his backpack down to the floor and took his seat next to the blonde girl, he would have quite a good time lording his good fortune in this field over Kankuro and Kiba.
"So, eh, hi," he said, grinning sheepishly over at his new lab-partner for however long it was until the teacher made them switch seats. "S'been a while, Ino. What's up?"

Her mind was pulled out of her notebook by the teachers first words, which were not what she was expecting. Normally when a teacher starts class they introduce themselves or talk about what they were going to learn today, or any of another few boring things. Not today, and this blonde had a feeling that there would not be many days where class started out normally. Especially since one Uzumaki Naruto was in her class. It seemed like the first words out of the teachers mouth was the last name of the other blonde in the school, but at least it wasn't her head on the pike. Not that there was too much trouble she thought a person could get into in the first week of school. Not that she was someone who got into a lot of trouble.
She raised her blue eyes to the front of the class to see what would happen and the next words out of the teachers mouth were a little shocking. She was going to be partnered with Naruto!? Now she had nothing against the other blonde, they were casual friends seeing as how he was pretty much in love with her best friend, who was also a member of the odd hair color group. It was just that Naruto was not well known for getting good grades, Science being one of the worse. This was bad for her seeing as how doing sports required A and B grades, no exception. Guess that just meant she had to work harder at this class than planned, maybe Naruto might actually learn something this time anyway.
Sliding her one notebook she had strewn across the table in her boredom before class. She gave a soft smile to her new partner, well at least class would never have a dull moment she thought with a smile. “It has been a while Naruto. How have you been?” she said her eyes glancing up front and starting to copy down the teachers notes on the black board. “I have been good, getting ready for the volleyball season and enjoying cheer practice in the morning. It's great fun.” This next year of volleyball was going to be pretty good, she had a feeling. There team was good last year, and it would probably be even better this year!

Naruto grinned. Oh yes, he was going to enjoy telling Kiba and Kankuro about this. It appeared as though he finally had a legitimate reason for coming to class... aside from that whole grades and graduating thing. Plus Sakura would never want to go out with a dropout.
It occurred to the blonde that if he was smooth and played his cards right he could theoretically get information about a certain pink-haired beauty from the other blonde sitting next to him. They were best friends, after all, even if they had that one stint in middle school over Sasuke...
Ugh. Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke. Sure, everyone is the main character of their own lifes' story, but why was it starting to feel like he was a supporting character, second tier to that damn asshole, in his own? He was really getting tired of hearing that guy's name.
"Same old, same old, I guess," Naruto said with a shrug, pulling his notebook (though it tended to be filled more with doodles than notes) out of his backpack and flipping it open. Of course, it was only the first day of this class... but that didn't stop the Uzumaki from having gotten a head start on his art practice. An epic stick-figure battle he had completely forgotten about played out before him, the results of a particularly productive last period, but not in terms of health education like the teacher had intended.
The male couldn't help but grin when his new table-partner brought up two of his favorite sports ever: Volleyball and cheerleading. Sure, some people might argue that they weren't sports because they weren't manly man tests of skill, or whatever bullshit homophobic macho men liked to pull out of their asses, but Naruto knew better. Why?
Have you ever seen those uniforms? Seriously.
"Oh, yeah, I'd been meaning to ask you about that, actually. What's the volleyball schedule this year? I wanted to go to the games, you know, school spirit and all." Okay, so the school spirit thing was kind of a stretch, but still.

She would have to tell Sakura about this, first week of school and things were getting a little crazy all ready. Curiosity getting the better of her she found her blue eyes leaving the boring rules and expectations on the board and glance momentarily at Naruto's notebook. It seemed everyone doodled in their school notebooks, school was by no means interesting enough to keep a teenagers attention for the whole class. Though her doodles were confined to the edges of her notes and were more like detailed swirls and flowers. It seemed that the other blonde was less interested in what happened in his last class and more in his seemingly insane . . . stick-figure battle.
While not exactly school appropriate, she couldn't help but smile. Her mind returned to her sport Volleyball, and while she had doubts about how much school spirit was a part of Naruto wanting to go to the game, the more students that went the better. So school spirit or not she would be glad to have a fellow classmate there. There was something about having the stands full of students from your school that gave the team a sense of confidence. So even if the majority of students who were at the game were guys who were more interested in the girls who were playing than the actual game its self. It was still more people there which was a good thing.
Opening her binder she pulled out a colorful piece of paper, her volleyball schedule. It had all the games here at her school and every other game possible. Along with a reminder of when practice was and stuff like that. While the paper had been white when she had first got it, it was now a highlighter fest. Each different location had it's own color and all the important dates were colored. “Well our first game is in two weeks on Friday, I can make a copy of this for you later. I kind of need this one for my parents.” She circled the date of the first game sliding the paper towards Naruto so he could see better.

Naruto's eyes lit up when he spied the piece of paper like it was the holy grail of hormonal teenage males. Never mind it looked like rainbow bright threw up all over the paper... no. That was not the important thing here.
Of course it was just his luck that the teacher would pick now to start lecturing and bitching explaining the rules of the classroom when he would much rather be discussing the neon page that his table partner had slipped over to him. They weren't at the front of the class, but they were still close enough that the evil old woman with the goddamn hawk ears (or just a hearing aid turned up really high; he wasn't quite sure) would notice them talking if they weren't careful and super stealthy about it.
But of course, what did a guy whose favorite color was iridescent, nuclear orange know about stealth?
"Yeah, make a copy of that for me, will ya?" he whispered... though rather loudly for a whisper (which really defeated the whole purpose). Sensing the teacher's eyes on him, he immediately looked up, making sure a pencil was in his hand and he at least looked like he was taking notes, so he wouldn't get in trouble. But... really, who cared about taking notes on expected behavior in the class?
What was he really working on? The epic stick figure battle, of course. He wasn't Sai, or anywhere close, but Naruto made stick figures into an art form. It was a shame that this... well, it could hardly be considered a doodle anymore when it took up two full pages of his notebook, was on lined paper. Because, really... it was a beautiful mix of dead trees and lead. But... someone, was it Sakura? Anyway, someone had told him that pencils used graphite, not lead... But that was certainly beside the point here. He would have inquired more about the team and just exactly what was on that sacred piece of paper Ino had flashed before him, but he was aware the girl actually cared about school and pissing off the carrier of such holy information was the last thing he wanted to do. Instead, he smirked to himself, drawing a stick figure with a spear (or perhaps a sword, it was hard to tell sometimes) through it and imagining the looks on Kankuro and Kiba's faces when he told him the news.

Her blue eyes more or less trained to the front of the class room and the blackboard, where the teacher was talking in what the blonde was sure had to be the most annoying voice possible. It's not like what she was saying was that important, it was the same damn thing every teacher said at the beginning of the school year about how to not talk / pass notes / text / anything else during class. It was all very samey and boring, the only reason that Ino tried to pay attention was when the teacher would get around to talking about all the homework they would have to do and all that jazz.
The only true worries were projects that would take time outside of class, those were always a pain. Time out of class was rather packed for the blonde so the sooner she could get started on big annoying stuff ahead of time. Turning her eyes from the board to look at her table mate as he asked her to make a copy of her paper. Glancing up at the teacher and waiting until the teachers eyes had looked away from their table to respond. She kept her voice soft and low so as not to attract the teachers attention she responded “Yeah I can get you a copy, if you have time and are around school I can get it to you before volleyball practice. Or I'll just bring it to class, whatever works.”
Her blue eyes turned away from the orange loving blonde and back to the teacher, who was still blabbing on about behavior and class expectations. It was all very unimportant and boring so Ino found herself not wanting to pay attention, which sucked because she needed to know what this teacher was like, and not be the one to get caught causing trouble. Which might be a bit more difficult with the rambunctious blonde Naruto as her partner. Still she had a feeling that she would enjoy this class this semester, it didn't seem that the teacher was too much of a homework nazi which was always great.

Naruto glanced over at his table-partner and nodded, still too paranoid of the teacher to really speak. Yes, he wanted a copy of that flyer regardless of the fact that it looked like the girl had used every color available to her to mark the thing. If she photocopied it, most if not all the colors wouldn't show up anyway, unless she bought those special photocopy hi-liters they sold at the office supply store...
Speaking of office supply stores, it had been far too long since he had participated in a rolly-chair joust. He made a mental note to bring this up next time he was reunited with the rest of team sexy. Because, really, it needed to be done.
It was kind of unfortunate that there wasn't really a good way to draw a stick figure rolly-chair... he needed to talk to Sai about this. Then again... he wasn't really sure if Sai would get the nuances of the stick figure massacre. It was a very sophisticated art, after all.
Content that the pages had been filled to the brim, he set the pencil down triumphantly and leaned back on the two hind legs of the chair. So much for keeping a low profile, but he didn't really care. These introductory classes were always ridiculous... You'd think that after hearing the same damn rules and regulations (the same ones that could be found on the school website, all over the walls of the office, and may as well be branded on the insides of their eyelids by now) for hour after hour, you'd think the teachers would try to spice things up a little bit. But no, even this woman didn't seem to be all that interested in the same tired old spheal she had been droning at the kids all day. Someone was in dire need of coffee and a cigarette, it seemed, and it wasn't just any of the bored-stiff students.
As much as he wanted to just close his eyes and take a nap through the rest of the period, he knew he couldn't do it. If he did, more than likely he'd end up tumbling over in his chair, pissing the teacher off and getting sent down to detention, and then pissing Ino off by not being there or getting in trouble or something. And, again, pissing off Ino was not something he wanted to do.
Eventually though, it seemed like the class period dragged its' sorry, bloated ass to its' end, and the second hand creeped to the top of the clock, starting the holiest of all noises: the period bell.
There was a mad rush by almost every student to get the hell out before the crochety old woman could remember something she forgot, like, say, giving out a worksheet or something, but Naruto lagged behind a little to confirm his deal with his table-partner. "So, where should I meet you, then?" he asked, walking backwards towards the exit, hands behind his head and a grin on his face.

It was a dull class, to add to the list of dull classes she had to suffer through today. There was something about the first week or so of school that Ino couldn't help but hate. It was just so terribly boring to hear the rules and blah blah blah nonsense in every class. Trying to actually pay attention as the teacher talked Ino drummed her painted nails on the desk. It seemed that this teacher just had to have one of those voices that grated on a girls nerves no matter what was being said. Still hopefully class wouldn't drag on for too long, not that one could promise anything so she would just have to wait and see what would happen.
Between glancing up at the board to make sure nothing important was being said and watching Naruto work on, what she guessed she would be seeing a lot of, his stick figure battle. Sometimes she wondered how a person like him, who seemed to never do any work or even go to class had managed to get this far in school. It seemed almost unfair that some people could work hard and not to well and some could slack and still get far. Still that was life, and she worked hard and got good grades and that is what she needed to do so she wouldn't let the idea of unfairness and such get her down. That would be just a pointless waste of time and thought energy.
Finally it was time for one class to end and a brief respite before the next class. Not having a backpack was nice in a class like this, it was much faster to just grab her stuff, stand, and leave. As she got out of the desk she heard Naruto wonder where to meet her. “Well I have practice after school, and I can get a copy from my coach so if meeting in the gym after school will work for you I will be there.” She followed her fellow blonde out of the class room and into the halls as they filled with students the thrum of voices growing.
