Today hadn't exactly been the best day in the world. It was far from the worst, to be sure, but it definitely wasn't the kind of day that he would look back on all fondly and filled with nostalgia years from now.
Of course, he thought with a smile, that all had the possibility to change in just a few short minutes. At least, according to the crumpled note in his pocket that confirmed that he was supposed to be meeting his crush at his favorite restaurant just after school. Really, what could go wrong? He even did the cute romantic thing and wrote it by hand instead of texting her. He had to get points for that, right?
He was still in his school uniform, but the collar had long ago been unbuttoned and the tie had been thrust into the deep dark recesses of his backpack. It was probably a good thing, since he didn't want to come off too strongly. This wasn't a date... if she didn't want it to be. He was fine with it being one if she was interested, but as it was... it was just a friendly outing for some ramen.
He sped up his pace a little; it was Sakura he was definitely not going on a date with, after all, and she had that maddening habit of always being perfectly on time if not early to every single event ever. There was a good chance that she would get there before he even did, and that was just bad form.
Ah, there, the little ramen stand with the most amazing ramen in the world. And no gorgeous pink-haired girl in sight... so he had gotten there before she did. Always a plus. The blonde ducked his head under the flap of fabric and sat down on his favorite stool, grinning at Ichiraku Teuchi, who had already begun making his favorite bowl as soon as the blonde came into view.
"I'm actually waiting for a friend," he explained, trying to tone down his enthusiasm and act casual about the whole thing, but it wasn't working so well. "I think you've seen her before, but yeah. I don't want to start eating before she gets here..."
