Copy and paste, people, and have fun. I was bored.
How long have you been RPing? Six years and counting. I've taken a few breaks, though, so probably more like four and a half or five...
What was the first "type" of RP site you joined? As best as I remember, it was a street dog RP called A Dog's Life. I watched that site grow from a newb site to the home of some of the best roleplayers I ever did meet.
Were you a one-liner RPer when you first started? Yes. I wasn't that bad, considering I was 9 and had neither the time nor patience nor experience to write a decent post, but that changed pretty quickly. It took about a year before my posts were two or three solid paragraphs. After about three years, I was actually REALLY good at interesting descriptions. Not so much anymore...
How long did it take for you to get past the newb/n00b stage? I'm not really comfortable judging that, myself. I don't think I was ever a total n00b because I really cared about improving and learning, and I was only a new to it (by the HL definition of "newbie") for a year before I came to the point where I was striving to become better. It was a few years before I was actually a decent writer, though.
Are you still in your newb/n00b stage? Quite possibly.
lol, no. In all seriousness, I don't think so. I'm not a great writer but I'm better than I was when I started.
What's your preferred "type" of RP? I really have a passion for Warriors RPs in a way I've never had for human RPs. Wolf and dog RPs are a close second. Human RPs...they don't usually interest me as much, but the first human RP I was on was actually a mixed RP called Collide (which I am now the head admin of -- long story behind that).
I love fantasy RPs, but most of the sites I've been on have been semi-realistic. I haven't found very many fantasy RPs that aren't so dark that the RPers themselves are almost difficult to get along with.
What was the "basic info" of your first-ever character? Oh, my... Dakota, male, wolf, about 8 years old as I remember -- very basic character. I don't remember his personality type exactly, but he was kind and good, if nothing else. My second character, Kudo (male, wolf, 6 years old and Dakota's half-brother) was more interesting.
Looking back, do you think he/she was a Mary Sue? Yeah, but Dakota didn't last long. He kind of became uninteresting after a month (and since I was 9, lost interest means lack of attention). Kudo was my best early character. His main flaw was his reservation and inability to sympathize with any creature that didn't mean a lot to him.
What was your first well-made character? ...eh. I'm reluctant to say Kudo, so probably Karrthorn (I don't remember what inspired the name) or Crowflight.
Karr was an oddball puppy who was readily influenced by his surroundings. He ended up joining the most...ahem, sinister pack on the site, and developed in a very...interesting way. He was still a sweetie, though.
Crowflight was just...wow. He had a screwed up heritage and family, I'll suffice to say. It's complicated. Anyway, he morphed into quite a monster. My first truly double-sided character.
His/her basic info? Karrthorn, male, dog, 10 months - 3 years... Crowflight, male, cat, and I RPed him from birth to death.
Do you prefer RPing male or female characters? I usually RP males.
Have you ever RPed a gay character? No. Asexual, yes, but not gay.
What's the name of your most quirky character? Slash. He...was something else, that's for sure.
What's the name of your favorite character (of yours)? ...I really don't know, you know? I'm first tempted to say Scott (male/wolf/birth and beyond, a milder version of Ryou almost) and Crowflight, but I dunno. Maybe Walter. He was...complicated.
What character of yours do you most want to play again? I'd really love to remake Kudo or Karrthorn. Crowflight ran his course and I will not disgrace him by trying to recreate him, but Kudo and Karrthorn never really wore thin.
Approximately how many original characters have you created? Hundreds, easily. Most of them weren't used much. Probably 30 or 40 who saw at least some use.
What's your favorite personality type for a character? I can't say I have one. I really prefer more reserved characters, or deeply thoughtful ones, or things of that sort. Kudo was one of my favorites, and I could type several paragraphs telling what I always pictured him as, but simply put, he was very quiet with a deeply-instilled sense of justice, but with no real concern for any living thing that didn't mean as much to himself as his own life. He was very aware of the fact that this was not normal and he should care more, but he did his best to be just, even if he felt nothing emotionally. He knew intellectually that he ought to care, so he forced himself to try. It was interesting. I don't think I was ever able to delve very deeply into that part of his personality, though. :/
Approximately how many RP sites have you joined and stuck with? Ugh. Ten, twelve. Something. Almost all of them are dead now.
Have you ever been part of a fandom-RP? Yes.
If so, what fandom? Warriors and Naruto, mostly.
Funny or serious threads? I really like a good serious, one-on-one thread, the type that touches on the emotional sides of the characters. Funny threads are great too, though.
One-on-one, medium, or large threads? One-on-one or fairly small, at least. I don't like very big threads.
Do you remember any especially memorable threads from past sites (or this one)? If so, tell us about it. Oh, dear...
One time, I made a thread with one of my robust characters -- I think it was Kender or someone. Anyway, it was just a practice thread and wouldn't actually count in-character unless me and the other RPer mutually decided it would. It was a fight thread. The admin of the site and the best RPer on there by far joined, of all people, with her main, the alpha dog of Karrthorn's pack, Kurohyou.
Those posts averaged 1000 words, and we developed a new system for RP fights in the process, as I remember it. It was the best. Thread. Ever. And you'll never guess the site it was on -- A Dog's Life, the very same site that had once been a newb site.
Another thread on the same site, with the same person, but different characters: I had a pair of brothers named Love and Kill who were lost on a packland (Kudo's packland, coincidentally). The admin joined with one of her less friendly characters, Jericho. Love was injured and Kill managed to hide him away. He was scared out of his mind, but with his brother incapacitated, he went out to fight off Jericho. I don't remember if we ever finished it, but that was another awesome fight.
What's your approximate average word count? 600, I think. It depends. It's definitely gone down with time.
Do you prefer long posts and long waits, or short posts and short waits, from other people? I don't really care one way or the other. Long posts, I suppose.
What do you consider yourself, RP-level wise? Literate-intermediate. I once could honestly say advanced, and will still honestly say I think I once was, but my ability to articulate has seemed to degrade over time. I definitely get ideas for characters and plots, but my specialty in both RPing and fanfiction is taking a rather mundane character and throwing them into the weirdest situations. I love that. It's like Heroes only better, and usually less serious.
RPing: art form or hobby? A bit of both. It's an art beyond the writing, but it's still a hobby.
I say it's an art because it IS. It's as much art as writing a book -- you plot, you mold the character, you add twists and turns as they come, you create. It's for fun, sure, but it's also more than that. If RPing of all things doesn't make me flex my creative muscles (saying that makes me laugh), I don't know what does. It's not to be taken too seriously, though. It's not life-and-death, it's not real, but it's still weaving a story -- the funny moments, serious moments, good, bad, ugly, everything. It's not something you're making a living off of, so yes, it's a hobby, but art is something you create because you enjoy it, not because it makes you money. Besides, as far as I know, it's hard to make a lot of money as an author.
Did you enjoy this survey? I made this survey.
Do you think it could be improved? Anyone who ever made anything thinks it can be improved. In other words, duh.
