The school was doing something different this year. For a price, and a signed permission form, students could spend the night together and part-take in various activities throughout the school. Some faculty members had been more or less forced to participate, and would keep an eye out to make sure everything was under control. There was a Halloween dance that was taking place in the gymnasium, and various classes had set up some kind of event. Sai had attended the monster café, where they served ‘creepy’ looking sweets and the girls were dressed up as monster maids. He had been attended by a zombie maid as she passed him his mud-chocolate drink with little gummy worms.
The students could not wear masks, bring in any weapons, or wear anything considered too bulky. He just put on make up to look like he was severely beaten. One black eye, a band aid across his nose, streams of dried blood from the nostrils to his chin, a large bruise on his cheek, and a gash across his forehead. He enjoyed trying to make it look realistic, using many photo references that some teachers stopped and asked him if he really was ok. Who could blame them, Sai was the kind of person many people would want to beat up. The sight left some students feeling satisfied.
He got up and wandered the halls. There was a zombie chasing a witch and a teacher yelling at them not to run in the halls. The courtyard of the school was decorated like a graveyard, and the students seemed to be allowed to run around, yell and scream all they wanted. He passed by another class and peeked in through the little window of the door. The lights were off but there seemed to be a glowing from the t.v, and the sounds of screams startled him away from the door. Horror movies perhaps? He continued on his way. The dance would be ending soon, and he expected to see a lot more of the people he knew fill the hallways. He didn’t really want to go. Sai didn’t find dancing in a crowd with flashing lights and piercing music to be that much fun, and the stuffiness would make him sweat the make-up off. He enjoyed the other things that people did, like watching students bob for apples. He casually leaned against the wall in the hallway, figuring that Naruto or somebody would walk his way soon.
The clock struck 11:30. They had a very fair curfew, in his opinion. 12:30 and the students who signed up for the sleep over would have to start getting ready. There were rooms designated by grade where the desks and chairs were cleared out and futons had been laid out. Space had been limited, so only a small percentage of the school got to experience the event in its entirety. There would be breakfast in the morning.
He had a feeling that a curfew wouldn’t stop some students from planning something naughty to do. Whatever one’s definition of ‘naughty’ was… He was not surprised that rooms were also separated by gender.
A tall figure reading a familiar book walked right past him. A black shinobi shozoko, huh? Their teacher was dressed as a ninja.
“Kakashi-sensei, have you seen Naruto-kun?”
He blinked when Kakashi giggled into his book.
“Kakashi-sen—“
“He’s probably at the dance, or up to no good vandalizing the school with ‘Naruto iz da best’ or something with equally atrocious grammar.” Kakashi lowered his book and unsurprisingly his face was yet again covered by a mask. Except this time he had a forehead protector covering his discoloured, scarred eye and pushing up his grey hair.
“Having fun, Sai?”
Sai nodded.
“That’s good. You’re a decent kid; just make sure to keep your friends under control.”
“You suspect they’ll be up to no good?”
“Now now, I don’t mean to sound like I have no faith in my darling little students, but a teacher never can be too cautious.”
Says the man who frequently let his students hit him with erasers and paper airplanes because he was busy reading Icha Icha.
He quickly looked over his shoulder, seeing an devilish Anko standing down the hall with her annoyed gaze set on him.
“Whoops, gotta run.”
Sai watched the teacher sprint down the hall, with an angry woman trailing behind him, yelling some obscenities. He wondered if the teachers were sometimes as bad as the students.
