gender Female, no matter what anyone says about her less-than-feminine mannerisms or her formerly stickly physique

Physical Appearance
At 5'4'' and weighing about 130 lbs, Haruka isn't shaped like the average slender Japanese girl, meaning larger breasts, wider hips, and an inferiority complex for having to wear larger sized clothing to compensate. She is just farsighted enough to need low-prescription reading glasses for studying.
Born with cheekbones that were too high and a nose that was too large to be considered traditionally attractive, Haruka trashed the idea of ever being conventionally beautiful. Instead, she decided to get body piercings... lots of them. Not all at once, of course. Currently, she's up to fifteen: a stud in her left eyebrow, three holes in each earlobe, a cartilage piercing in her right ear and an industrial bar through her left. She wears a lip ring through the center of her bottom lip, a stud through the center of her tongue, a nose ring in her left nostril and a stud in the right, a 'Marilyn' piercing above the left side of her lip, and her navel is pierced three times, once on either side and once through the top.
Her natural hair color has been lost to the sands of time; instead it changes every month or so from one absurd crayola crayon color to the next. Most commonly her hair tends to be a shade of red or orange, contrasting sharply with her apple green eyes. Recently, she tried an experiment with red cherry kool aid in an attempt to dye it red; the result was a salmon pinkish orange color. Not exactly what she wanted, but she doesn't have the money to fix it at the moment.
Personality Calling Haruka crazy would be a bit of an understatement. She is a rather loud, headstrong, and very outgoing person whose life is full of contradictions. Outwardly she seems very carefree, though almost eternally angry at something or other, and claims to not care what anyone thinks of her, sometimes going out of her way to be annoying or rude in an attempt to get people to let her be. She claims to not believe in 'love' or have any interest in romance or strong relations with other people, content with relying on herself as she knows what to expect and won't be let down or disappointed. However, while she would never admit this to anyone, secretly she desperately vies for approval, friendship, and affection from others. Not having a solid group of friends, she tends to float around rather than merely hanging out with a few people and creating solid ties. Haruka has many tolerable acquaintances but few close friends.
For the most part, Haruka tends to be more interested in activities associated with boys rather than girls. She'd rather play video games or baseball (and swear like a sailor while she does so) than sit around and gossip, though she does have a secret love for nail polish and hair dye. Not used to or really all that comfortable with this mature figure she seems to have suddenly developed, she uses and abuses it to her advantage to get the attention of others. Some might call it slutty, she calls it utilizing her assets.
While maintaining a punk rock attitude towards life, claiming to want to die at 'the ripe old age of twenty-seven' (when all good rock stars die: Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, the list goes on), she is also very diligent about getting high marks in High School. She splits her time between being a workaholic, juggling a job at a cheesy cafe on the boardwalk named Cafe Paradiso and studying for school, and a crazy party girl who is still under the delusions that stealing the neighbor's lawn gnome and egging their house is a defiant act and by doing so she is really sticking it to the man. As she claims to not believe in love herself, she has a tendency to take other peoples' feelings too lightly and inadvertently ending up hurting them. When intoxicated, she is a very friendly drunk, and is prone to extreme behavior and the occasional random hookup if given the opportunity.
Strengths
Vocal: Haruka tends to hold strong opinions, and is not afraid of speaking her mind and of telling people what she thinks: of them, of what they're saying, of the surroundings, and of anything and everything in general.
Open: No idea is too stupid, crazy, or weird. In fact, the stranger, more deviant from the norm, the better. [/ul]
Flaws
Fickle: Sometimes, she likes things. Other times, she doesn't. What she thinks of any given thing on any given day is anyone's guess, be it anything from the color of her hair or even a person.
Vain: Acutely aware of how much attention is garnered to the female figure, even if hers isn't so ideal, she has a tendency to stop every time she sees a mirror and adjust every piercing and run a hand through her hair, and maybe reapply some of the too-thick makeup she doesn't leave the house without wearing. She loves, no, needs to feel like she's beautiful.
Arrogant: Who's the best? This girl, and she just kicked your ass!
Insecure: While she might be making a big show of her achievements and her, ahem, assets, it's only to hide the insecure little girl inside telling her she's not good enough.[/ul]
Drink? yes – what the hell else do you do at parties?
Smoke? yes – only when drinking, or after (good) sex. However, she has a cigarette tucked behind her ear at all times, and has gotten in trouble at school more than once for it.
Drive? yes/no – coming from a family living on the other side of Japan she figured it would be a good idea to get her license even if she didn't need or even have a car in Tokyo. She knows how, but lacks a vehicle.
Drugs? If available; she won't go and actively search them out but if someone offers her something, she'll probably take it, as long as they're not pills.
Partying? Hell yes – at least, when she isn't working or studying.
Family Father: Ochi Shiro, 45
Mother: Ochi Kotoko, 40
Haruka's relationship with her parents is rocky at best. Her father disapproves of her piercings and the dyeing of her hair, to the point where he overlooks the fact that she is doing exactly what he wanted her to do: go to school and get a good education. Haruka's mother is somewhat more open to Haruka's lifestyle choices, but is very submissive to her husband and will not speak out for her daughter.
Assorted cousins: And lots of them.
Residence Haruka lives in a small studio apartment near the school and in the same complex as her older male cousin, as part of her deal for going to High School so far from her parents.
History Ochi Haruka was born the only child of parents from large families, so she had lots of cousins but no brothers or sisters. Due to complications of their first child's birth, Haruka's mother was left infertile and her father was left with a daughter when he had been rather hoping for a son. As a child, she was rather awkward and kind of quiet, making few friends but generally preferring to play sports and tag with the boys than dolls and house with the girls. Despite the activity she was always a little chubby, and as she got older she became very self-conscious of it. Primary school have the tendency to be cruel, and this definitely didn't help matters at all.
When she started Middle School, however, something had changed. Some time over the summer, she was introduced to Punk Rock music, music about not putting up with shit from anyone else and telling people what you really thought about them, and decided that she didn't like the quiet, shy girl persona she had been as a kid. Middle school saw her turn into an apathetic hooligan. Despite this apathy and total lack of respect for anything resembling school or authority, however, her teachers and parents noticed something: when she applied herself, she was quite intelligent.
By age 14, her relationship with her parents was rather strained. At the recommendation of one of her many cousins, a teacher at Konoha High School, she applied for high school in Tokyo, on the other side of the country from Kofu where she was born. She was accepted, and after convincing her parents that she had just managed to get into one of the most prestigious schools in the country (no matter how dubious that claim actually was) convinced them to pay for her high school tuition and an apartment in the city, so long as she kept her grades up and got a job to pay for any additional expenses.
Upon getting ready for senior year, Haruka found that her clothes weren't really fitting properly anymore. Where before she had been teased as having boy hips and a flat chest in addition to being chubby, it seemed as though she had finally filled out 'properly' for a girl. Realizing that this could be used to her advantage, she kept the old pieces of her uniform despite now being too small, purposely leaving her shirt half-buttoned and wearing bras that could be seen clearly from under the fabric to distract and draw attention to herself.
For as long as she could remember, she harbored an unrequited crush on her best friend in Kofu, a similar misfit boy named Kai, declaring, after repeated attempts to win his favor only to be shot down and discarded for girls she almost never liked, that 'love' as most people see it is a mental disorder and not something worth pursuing. In the middle of her junior year, she found out not only that Kai had been killed in a fight, but that no one in Kofu had bothered to tell her for two weeks, further widening the emotional distance between her and the rest of her friends and family in Kofu. Despite her attraction to partying and hooliganism, she keeps up good grades by miraculously managing to put studying first somehow. She will turn down an invitation to a party or hang out if school is more pressing; though she is known for putting stuff off until the last minute.[/SIZE]
Leave all your love and your longing behind

What makes your character (or interpretation of the character) unique, original, and worth having on the site? Most female characters, and especially OCs, have the unfortunate tendency of all sounding the same. They are sweet, modest, and caring young ladies looking for true love or at least the meaning of life and existence. Haruka, on the other hand is only a lady in the sense that she is female, with no deep dark secrets that explain a introverted, sour disposition. Haruka just likes simple fun, an extroverted, if eternally pissed off, girl that parties like a guy without any of the silly baggage and freudian excuses for her actions that lots of characters seem to have.

She ignored the fact that he had definitely come up with the wrong word and taken the phone anyway. Seriously, did he just want an excuse to rub up on her or something? All he had to do was ask and she could hook him up with some vaseline and maybe call up a skanky friend to come over if he really needed some contact that bad. Though, considering how he pulled away from her as soon as he got the phone from her grasp, not lingering against her like a perv but not pulling away too quickly as though he knew he had done something wrong, maybe... maybe he actually just wanted his phone. What a novel concept.
The fact that he could just so easily stop paying attention to her scantily-clad self and start playing with his phone was a little disconcerting to the redhead. Really, was she that uninteresting to him now? She had half-expected to be pulled into his lap and on top of her cat for the piece of technology she had acquired for him, not out of gratitude but rather just because she was smaller than he was and he seemed to have a tendency to manhandle her when she had something he wanted. But, all she got was a thank you before she was promptly ignored again.
This night was weird.
Whatever, he wouldn't know good taste if it hit him over the head. "You're welcome, I suppose," she mumbled back, out of habit more than anything else. What did she care?
Well, it wasn't him so much as the fact that it heralded a point that there was a dude sitting next to her that apparently didn't ca-
She stood (sat?) corrected when the man reached over to play with the zipper of her sweatshirt just as she was about to grab her sandwich. There, that was more like it.
"Oh, sure, you'd like that, wouldn't you?" she asked, rolling her eyes. Never mind that for some reason she got some sort of odd satisfaction from the action and comment. The gesture meant that she still had it, though considering it came from a man who would probably bang anything that consented shouldn't really have meant as much as it did. Even still, it was good to know. Then again, the implications of said night job weren't exactly glorious. Stripping was one thing, straight up streetwhoring was another thing entirely...
Briefly, Haruka pondered how much money she would rake in if she went for the tragic 'hooker with a heart of gold' archetype. Though, she didn't really have a heart of gold. More like 'hooker with a heart of jackass'. That didn't have nearly the ring to it, though.
After a few seconds, she grabbed his hand and pulled it away from her sweatshirt (and boobs), shaking her head. "You wouldn't be able to afford me anyway," she added offhandedly, picking up her vegetarian masterpiece of a sandwich with her free hand, now that the show had taken a commercial break. "I'm sure if you went down to the corner you could find something more in your price range," she continued, before taking a bite.
